As a user, I download a Petals distribution.
When I ask for system information, I can use JMX (Petals/Admin#getSystemInfo) or with a script (./petals-esb.sh -V). However, this only displays information about the micro-kernel. Nothing about the container version or the distribution.
What would be useful is getting the container version (for those who know how it works internally) AND the disitribution version (something that is meaningful with respect to what is shown on the web site). The distribution version is the most meaningful and easy-to-find information. The container and components verions are internal. So, the distribution version should be displayed too.
If the container was released independently of any distribution, then the distribution version should be standalone container. Otherwise, it should display the distribution version.

Christophe DENEUX added a comment - Mon, 9 Apr 2018 - 12:56:00 +0200 - edited Version of Petals ESB container has been added on `petals-esb[.sh] -V' with Petals ESB EE 5.2.0
Petals ESB distribution has no specific runtime. It's only a facility to get a set of Petals ESB artifacts working together. So it has no sens to get its version using a CLI or any other way.
Against, the version of Petals ESB Container must be returned by script 'petals-esb[.sh] -V' (see PETALSESBCONT-456)
