Petals ESB 5.2.0 or upper will run on Java 8u161 or upper, so:

build target should be JRE 8 instead of JRE 7,

remove PermGen space configuration because PermGen space no more exists with JRE 8,

remove dependency javax.activation:activation, a correct version is included in JRE 8 (see https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-7096063). This will reduce the memory footprint (class instances per system classloader instead of class instances per component and container classloaders),

upgrade version of soapui-maven-plugin to 5.4.0,

upgrade version of Apache Derby to 10.14.2.0 (see http://db.apache.org/derby/derby_downloads.html),

upgrade version of Jetty to the latest version compliant with Java 8, see https://www.eclipse.org/jetty/documentation/current/what-jetty-version.html,

upgrade version of Apache Camel to the latest version compliant with Java 8, see http://camel.apache.org/what-are-the-dependencies.html

upgrade version of JaxB to the latest 2.2.x

upgrade version of Apache CXF to the latest version compliant with Java 8, see http://cxf.apache.org/faq.html
