As Maven 3 has now been available for monthes, more and more people use it. It can be annoying to install 2 maven versions, to deal with 2 different values for MAVEN_HOME and so on. Dealing with 2 different versions of maven is painful.

Specifically, the issue I got is that the component does not contain petals-common after a maven clean install.

I think that your problem is not specific to Maven3, see ~~MAVPETALSPLUG-5~~
